Organization Profile
Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) is nationally recognized as a coalition based within a community or geographic area that is comprised of representatives from public, private and not-for-profit organizations. It is the centralized intake hub for all requested support and assistance from individuals and businesses who have been impacted by any area disaster. Additionally the COAD is responsible for coordinating all volunteer efforts, prioritizing assessments and work orders, tracking all assistance provided from the myriad of organizations involved and ensuring all resources collected through local donations and other revenue streams are used to provide assistance to the local citizenry without any overhead costs generally associated with charitable organizations. The COAD is partnered with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), which is the conduit for information flow between the volunteer and service organizations and official government agencies. The Pulaski County COAD enhances the community’s ability to mitigate, prepare, respond and recover from disasters, ensuring that human needs inherent in a disaster situation are evaluated and addressed by leveraging the capabilities and resources of individual volunteers, community service organizations, area businesses and the Faith Based Coalition.
